Lordy what a week I've had, I feel like I'm out of gas, good thing it's Friday.
For starters my third equine (Chance) came back on base Saturday, for those that don't know he's been "retired" at my friend's family's farm for almost two years. Anyway my friend and trekked up to the farm for the day, cleaned the barn out, got the boys all wrapped and ready, loaded the boys and got them here safely, now the tough part, being "new" to the base herd as it were they are in isolation for two weeks, that means away from the barns and not in the pasture with everybody else. The isolation pen also has no water and no hay storage, so all hay, water and everything has to be schlepped over from the barn.
Secondly said friend is working in the admissions department at the college she graduated from, it's college fair time so she was on the road this week, you guessed it I took care of all 6 horses for two days, that's clean four stalls Monday AM, re-bed said stalls, set up hay in two of them, refill 6 water buckets. Then onto the isolated boys, bring them hay, bring them water, clean the pen(it's small) give my boy grain and keep her boy out of it. Tuesday clean two stalls, fill two hay nets, fill four water buckets, hay to the pen, clean the pen, grain my boy(no Davy, NO!) also my guy needs different hay so each day I picked rocks out of the arena while Chance ate his hay and Davy was kept apart from him.
Wednesday I had a Dr's appointment down town so that was the afternoon shot.
Taking care of the horses takes about two hours in the evenings as well, between getting my other two from opposite fields, getting grain for all three, trekking grain out to Chance, letting the other two back out, letting Chance back with Davy for the night, getting hay out for Chance and Davy...Are you getting a feel for my life yet?
Oh and I had a lesson on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Wednesday I just went for a ride with my friends. I should be giving a lesson tonight(right now) but I have a slight fever and a slight sore throat, one of the other barn owners child has/had Strep so I'm not taking any chances.
I'm going to go relax soon, right after I care for the horses for the night, thank goodness Chance and Davy will be out of isolation on Thursday.
