grease monkey

Yep that's me, a grease monkey, I like to tinker on cars, I don't mind smelling like gas and oil and my hands won't be harmed by it either, you think they are soft with all the barn work I do?
I finally got around to getting the fuel filter off of Ben's car, I know, I know, I said I was going to do it much earlier this week but one thing lead to another and we didn't have the funds to buy a new one anyway so I waited. I tackled it yesterday morning, not realizing that I left my nice tool kit in the saturn so I had to make do with the few tools in the garage, one bolt, one hose clamp and one cut hose later I had it. We ran to town on Ben's lunch break(so he could renew his drivers license) and picked up the new filter, it was only $16 so that's good, I just hope it's the filter and not the fuel pump, a used/refurbished pump was just put in it last summer so replacing that again would suck.
I got a start on installing the new filter this morning, I got one of the two hoses all clamped on but alas the hose that was cut is now to short so a trip to the parts store is again in order, we also need to get a new hose bit for the air filter/carburetor assembly so it's not an entirely wasted trip.
Oh well, I like visiting parts stores, I like talking to the guys behind the counter-and by the way why is it always guys behind the counter?-I like knowing knowing exactly what I need and what they are saying, I like the awe and respect I get for being a woman with car knowledge, I think if I wasn't taken I'd get asked out by some of those guys ;)
Once I have the needed bits in hand I'll try to get some pics of me doing the repair work, mostly because I want evidence that I am indeed a car chick, some people just don't trust a lady's word.
